Abstract

Objectives: To identify the prevalence of Enterococcus spp. and survey their antibiotic resistance at Da Nang C Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 69 Enterococcus isolates from various clinical specimens from January 2024 to February 2025. Identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing were performed using the VITEK 2 Compact system. Results: The two most common species were E. faecalis (68.1%) and E. faecium (21.7%). E. faecalis showed high sensitivity to ampicillin (97.9%), vancomycin (91.5%), and linezolid (91.5%). In contrast, E. faecium demonstrated high resistance to ampicillin (66.7%), erythromycin (86.7%), and ciprofloxacin (80.0%) but remained fully sensitive to linezolid (100%). Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) rates were 4.3% for E. faecalis and 13.3% for E. faecium. Conclusion: E. faecalis and E. faecium are primary pathogens with distinct resistance profiles. The emergence of VRE strains necessitates strict infection control and rational antibiotic use.
